Distro and label based in Portugal focused purely on underground and DIY music for those willing to face the whirlwind
A
release sprawled from the now shadowy and murky weeks that passed by
during and after the close-to-tragical temporary deletion of the Rites
of Pestilence channel in late November, 2025. A channel that, as I
always understood it, served not just a documentation for a musical
exploration, but what I envision as a beacon for honest and outsider
music, that seeks to reach beyond, understand what's underneath, and
pull strings deep beneath the psyche that have never been plucked. As
futile and naive it may seem, those weeks served as a reflection on the
passing of things, the turning of time yet the reocurring, an awakening
of sorts, yet somber period.
On the day prior to RoP's temporary
demise, the channel had posted Zénithe's follow-up to "Remnants of the
Aether", only a few hours before dissolving under the banner of
technolords' "sensibilities"; a work that, to me, seemed remarkable.
However, during the weeks when the channel was down recurrent dreams,
odd and vivid, appeared during this sleep. In then, shadowed, ascetic
human figures appeared burying objects in hallowed grounds, from sacred
burial sights, to remote cairns, individual dolmens to places
sacralized, in their absoluteness, by passing eras and civilizations
where the holy and the numinous abound. All happening under the
mysterious haze of melancholic melodies echoing from past lives.
What
followed was unexpected. After what seemed unlikely was made possible,
and the channel was exhumed from its grave, all non-flagged videos
remained but one, Zénithe's album had dissapeared. RoP contacted the
artist, who said he hadn't written any album and that upload could not
have existed as he had been under a creative block, yet he as well had
been feeling odd and having cloudy and labyrinthine dreams. After
describing to Zénithe those dreams and exchanging ideas about the images
and symbols enshrined in them, Zénithe begun translating these ancient
rituals and portals of the mind into his primordial synthesizers.
Thus
the concept emerged for "Quando Símbolos Falam" as a co-release between
Rasga and my newly launched distro and maybe-to-be small tape label, Na
Senda do Balborinho. An idea long festering in my mind, to create a
distro for small, real underground and DIY labels, with honest and
unique creations that have little visibility and distribution in the EU.
And with this collaboration with Rasga it seemed the perfect timing to
bring it to life.
To celebrate the metaphysical and spiritual
journey that signified the entire process of making this release happen,
it was decided to make two versions of the album: - The incomplete version, available for public purchase and freely listened to on RoP's channel,
- The complete version, with the complete tracklist and an
exclusive poster, only available for those willing to dig, both
metaphorically and literally, for free. This version exists solely in
cassette format and was put underground, buried in or closeby to sacred
sights across the globe.
The complete cassettes were and will soon be buried in the countries below: - 3x in Portugal - 3x in Finland - 3x in Netherlands - 2x in Norway -2x in Germany - 2x in Canada (Manitoba) - 1x in Mexico (Yucatan) - 1x in Brasil (Rio de Janeiro) -1x in Belgium - 4x USA (Vermont, Ohion, Indiana and Arizona)
